Clear Aligner Orthodontic
12.02.2026

It is widely known among the public that braces are used to correct misaligned teeth. However, orthodontic treatment without braces is also available. In this type of treatment, clear aligners are used. Today, it is highly preferred because it does not negatively affect appearance like traditional braces. The aligners can be easily removed when desired. Their structure is quite smooth and comfortable, so they do not cause discomfort. Many people also wonder whether they affect speech.

After an initial adjustment period of a few days, they do not interfere with speech at all. In fact, over time, patients often forget that they are even wearing them. There is no need to remove them while drinking water or lukewarm beverages. However, it is recommended to remove them before consuming coffee, tea, or sugary drinks, as heat may distort their shape. When clear aligner orthodontic treatment is considered, it involves a highly precise and carefully planned process.

Clear Aligner Orthodontic Treatment

Known in Latin as Invisalign, clear aligner orthodontic treatment involves the preparation of custom-made aligners for each patient. These aligners are typically replaced twice a month to achieve better results. For the treatment to be applied in children, all primary (baby) teeth must have fallen out. In addition, at least two permanent molars must have erupted.

Otherwise, the treatment may not provide the desired benefits. Throughout the treatment, it is mandatory to wear the clear aligners for at least 20 hours per day. If worn regularly, you will notice results in a relatively short time.

Problems Treated with Clear Aligner Orthodontics

Many people prefer clear aligner orthodontics for various dental issues because it is an easy and comfortable treatment method. Since no metal brackets are attached, it does not cause sores inside the mouth. Therefore, it is more comfortable and generally pain-free. Below is information about the problems that can be treated with this method.

1. Spaced Teeth
These patients have gaps in their jaws. There may be many reasons for this. Small or missing teeth are among the most common causes. Additionally, excessive jaw growth or forward tongue positioning can also contribute to spacing issues.

2. Deep Bite
This occurs when the upper teeth excessively overlap the lower teeth. It is usually caused by genetic factors. If left untreated, it may lead to gum problems.

3. Crowded Teeth
This occurs when there is not enough space in the jaw for all the teeth. As a result, the teeth may overlap each other. If not treated, it can lead to tooth decay and difficulties in maintaining proper oral hygiene.

4. Underbite
This occurs when the lower teeth extend beyond the upper front teeth. It is generally caused by excessive development of the lower jaw or insufficient development of the upper jaw. It may result in painful jaw problems.

5. Crossbite
This occurs due to misalignment of both the upper and lower jaws. As a result, bone loss may occur over time.

Important Considerations for Clear Aligner Treatment

First of all, the aligners must be worn for the duration specified by your dentist. They should only be removed while eating and cleaning. You should regularly clean your aligners using a toothbrush and lukewarm water to prevent odor formation. In addition, it is beneficial to attend regular check-up appointments. Yellowing of the clear aligners indicates that it is time to replace them. Even if no yellowing occurs, they must be replaced every two weeks.

Once the treatment period is completed, the aligners are removed. Thin protective retainers are then applied to prevent potential relapse. Dentists generally recommend wearing these retainers for at least two years. Before starting clear aligner orthodontic treatment, any issues such as cavities requiring fillings or teeth requiring extraction must be resolved. Professional dental cleaning is also important. This ensures a proper foundation for a successful treatment process.
