What Should the Diet be Like After Implant Surgery?
10.02.2026

Some of the foods that can be consumed after implant treatment include oatmeal, soup, cake, and mashed potatoes. These foods can be consumed slowly, as long as they do not strain the teeth and are not hot.

Today, thanks to continuously advancing and developing technology in oral and dental health, we can reach solutions to oral problems in the easiest and most comfortable way. For oral and dental health, it is essential to take good care of the teeth in order to avoid cavities, various infections, or tooth loss in the future. Dental implants are procedures performed to eliminate missing teeth. After implant treatment, attention should be paid to dietary habits. The completion of most implants can take 4–6 months. In some clinics, implants can be placed on the same day using fast implant procedures.

Just as there are many conditions to follow before getting an implant, there are also rules that must be followed after the implant procedure.

Who Can Receive an Implant and How Is It Applied?

Facial aesthetics and a beautiful smile have made people the center of attention in social environments for centuries. Good oral and dental health affects self-confidence, overall health, and social life. When communicating in a social setting, the first thing people notice is the mouth and teeth. Due to these social norms, many people experience a lack of self-confidence in cases such as crooked teeth or tooth loss and may hold themselves back socially.

When implant treatment is mentioned, questions such as how implants are applied and how nutrition should be after implant treatment often come to mind. Implants are procedures applied to individuals over the age of 18 whose facial and jawbone development has been completed. Whether the individual’s oral structure is suitable for implants is determined with the help of X-rays, and a treatment plan is applied accordingly. Patients with diabetes or similar chronic conditions must first have these conditions under control. Otherwise, various complications may occur during or after the procedure.

In implant treatments, the healing period is approximately 3 months for upper teeth and 6 months for lower teeth. Before the procedures, a thorough examination of the patient should be performed. The dental structure should be examined with the help of X-rays, and measurements of the teeth should be taken. Implants come in different types such as titanium and zirconium. Zirconium is also used in dental crowns.

Nutrition After Implant Treatment

There are many points to consider before and after implant treatment. One of these is dietary habits after the implant procedure. Some important points to consider are as follows:

  • Very cold or very hot foods and beverages should not be consumed after implant treatment.
  • No food or liquids should be consumed for at least 2 hours after the implant procedure.
  • Solid foods should be avoided during the first 24 hours. Soft foods may be consumed, but hot foods should be avoided.

Some of the foods that can be consumed after implant treatment include:

  • Since chewing should be avoided for a while after dental implants, oatmeal is highly beneficial. As only certain foods can be consumed during the healing process, oatmeal can help prevent nutritional deficiencies.
  • Since eating may be difficult during the first two days after surgery, soft foods such as cake can be preferred.
  • Consuming hard fruits immediately after surgery can be quite difficult, so foods such as bananas and fruit purée can be consumed.
  • Soup is, of course, one of the most preferred foods after any dental surgery. During the healing process after dental surgery, plenty of soup can be consumed as long as it is not hot.
  • Since chewing should be kept to a minimum during the recovery period after implant treatment, mashed potatoes are also among the foods that can be consumed.
